Key Terms
You'll see the following key terms in many bard class features.
Composition: To cast a composition cantrip or focus spell, you use a type of Performance. If the spell includes a verbal component, you must use an auditory performance, and if it includes a somatic component, you must use a visual one. The spell gains all the traits of the performance you used. You can cast only one composition spell each turn, and you can have only one active at a time. If you cast a new composition spell, any ongoing effects from your previous composition spell end immediately.
Metamagic: Actions with the metamagic trait tweak the properties of your spells. These actions usually come from metamagic feats. You must use a metamagic action directly before Casting the Spell you want to alter. If you use any action (including free actions and reactions) other than Cast a Spell directly after, you waste the benefits of the metamagic action. Any additional effects added by a metamagic action are part of the spell's effect, not of the metamagic action itself.
Every level at which you gain a Bard feat, select one of the following feats. You must satisfy any prerequisites before taking the feat.
1st Level Bard Feats
- Bardic Lore (enigma muse) - Your studies make you informed on every subject.
- Hymn of Healing - You learn the hymn of healing composition spell, which imbues your music with rich melodies that help your allies recover from harm.
- Lingering Composition (maestro muse) - By adding a flourish, you make your compositions last longer.
- Martial Performance (warrior muse) - Your muse has taught you how to handle a wider variety of weapons than most bards, empowering you to effortlessly blend your performance into combat even with the most inelegant tools.
- Reach Spell - You can extend your spells' range.
- Versatile Performance (polymath muse) - You can rely on the grandeur of your performances rather than ordinary social skills.
- Well-Versed - You're resilient to performative influences that aren't your own.
2nd Level Bard Feats
- Cantrip Expansion - Study broadens your range of simple spells.
- Directed Audience - You can shape the area of your composition spells.
- Esoteric Polymath (polymath muse) - You keep a book of occult spells, similar to a wizard's spellbook.
- Inspire Competence (maestro muse) - You learn to aid your allies' skills with your performance.
- Loremaster's Etude (enigma muse) - You magcially unlock memories, making them easier to recall.
- Multifarious Muse - Your muse doesn't fall into a single label.
- Song of Strength (warrior muse) - Your performances inspire strength in your allies.
4th Level Bard Feats
- Combat Reading - You use a performer's cold reading techniques, aura reading, and other tricks to discover your foe's strengths and weaknesses.
- Courageous Advance (warrior muse) - With a rousing call, you exhort an ally to advance.
- Inspire Defense (maestro muse) - You learn to protect yourself and your allies with your performance.
- Melodious Spell - You subtly weave your spellcasting into your performance.
- Ritual Researcher (enigma muse, expert in Occultism) - Careful research into the art of rituals has made you better at performing them.
- Triple Time - You learn to speed up yourself and your allies with your performance.
- Versatile Signature (polymath muse) - You're always tweaking your available repertoire.
6th Level Bard Feats
- Defensive Coordination (warrior muse, Inspire Defense) - Like the storied heroes who persist in the face of overwhelming odds, you and your allies will hold the line.
- Dirge of Doom - You learn to frighten your enemies with your performance.
- Educate Allies (Well-Versed) - You tweak the properties of your composition spell to convey a bit of your defensive knowledge.
- Harmonize (maestro muse) - You can perform multiple compositions simultaneously.
- Song of Marching - You learn the song of marching composition cantrip, which enables you and your allies to cross vast distances without strain.
- Steady Spellcasting - You don't lose spells easily.
8th Level Bard Feats
- Accompany - You use your performances to supplement an ally's spellcasting, providing magical energy for their spells.
- Call and Response - Your composition takes the form of a call-and-response chant, which lets your allies continue the effect with you.
- Courageous Opportunity (warrior muse) - You bellow a ferocious call to arms, inspiring yourself to lash out at a foe.
- Eclectic Skill (polymath muse, master in Occultism) - Your broad experiences translate to a range of skills.
- Inspire Heroics (maestro muse) - Your performances inspire even greater deeds in your allies.
- Know-it-All (enigma muse) - Your knowledge of the world expands beyond what you have read.
- Soulsight (Sorcerer bloodline that greats divine or occult spells) - Your muse has opened your senses to the world beyond.
10th Level Bard Feats
- Annotate Composition - By putting composition to paper, you can create a source of stirring words or song that others can read and understand.
- Courageous Assault (warrior muse) - With a mighty shout, you can stir an ally to attack.
- House of Imaginary Walls - You erect an imaginary barrier others believe to be real.
- Ode to Ouroboros - You learn the ode to ouroboros composition spell, which enables you to temporarily spare your allies from death.
- Quickened Casting - You are able to quickly cast a spell.
- Symphony of the Unfettered Heart - You learn the symphony of the unfettered heart composition spell, which enables you to protect an ally against incapacitating conditions.
- Unusual Composition (polymath muse) - You can translate the emotion and power of a composition to other mediums.
12th Level Bard Feats
- Eclectic Polymath (Esoteric Polymath) - Your flexible mind can quickly shift spells.
- Enigma's Knowledge (Assured Knowledge) - Your muse whispers knowledge to you at all the right times.
- Inspirational Focus - Your connection to your muse has granted you unusual focus.
- Reverberate - You can manipulate the acoustics around you to deflect sonic damage back at its source.
- Shared Assault (Courageous Assault) - In the triumph of battle, you can share the glory with another ally.
14th Level Bard Feats
- Allegro - You can quicken your allies with a fast-paced performance.
- Earworm - By endlessly repeating a motif, you implant an earworm, a memorable song that repeats over and over again in your allies' heads, preparing them to respond to it later.
- Soothing Ballad - You soothe your allies' wounds with the power of your performance.
- Triumphant Inspiration (warrior muse) - With a triumphant shout, you inspire your allies.
- True Hypercognition (enigma muse) - Your mind works at an incredible pace.
- Vigorous Inspiration - You instill magical vigor in your allies when you inspire them to attack.
